Police hand in hand with criminals: Tripura CPI-M

Agartala, Feb 13 (UNI) The CPI-M opposition in Tripura on Sunday accused the officer in charge of a police station of going hand in hand with criminals who allegedly killed Marxist leader Benu Biswas earlier this week . Biswas (48) was killed Thursday in the village of Kamalpur. Demanding the removal of the CO from the PR Bari police station in Belonia, South Tripura district, Arjan Chakma, Marxist Secretary of State of the Communist Party of India Jitendra Chowdhury argued that Chakma has been closely associated with BJP hooligans in “ illegal activities, immoral acts and criminal actions”. Previously, local CPI-M MP for Rajnagar Sudhan Das had been attacked by BJP thugs at least six times in the past four years in areas under the jurisdiction of PR Bari Police Station after the government led by Biplab Kumar Deb came to power, he alleged. In none of the cases did the police take any action against the criminals and did not even do minimal investigation into the allegations, Chowdhury said.” Some anti-social elements in the constituency took refuge in the ruling party and formed an alliance with police officers from the PR Bari police station, including Chakma. With the support of the police and BJP leaders, these elements perpetrated violence, especially against CPI-M supporters. They had beaten Benu to death,” Chowdhury claimed. Without investigating the case of Benu’s killing on Thursday, the police wrote up an account that it was not a murder. While the autopsy was in co urs, Chakma tried to convince the protesting public by saying that there was no trace of injury on his body and that the police headquarters had also issued a statement to that effect, he said. The victim was beaten to death by “BJP hooligans” on Thursday night as Benu returned from the local market, Chowdhury alleged. According to a report, the four defendants had previously repeatedly threatened the victim’s life and their behavior was indifferent in the village even after the body was recovered, indicating their involvement in the crime, Chowdhury said, adding that police had made up a rooster and bull story overnight to create a safe passage for the real culprits.
