Former Christiansburg cop sentenced to 40 years in prison after pleading guilty to distributing and possessing child pornography
CHRISTIANSBURG, Virginia. – A former Christiansburg police officer has been sentenced to 40 years in prison after pleading guilty to distributing and possessing child pornography.
Forensic evidence shows Ethan Michael Havens, 26, posted four images of child pornography on his Twitter account, all of which depicted the sexual exploitation of underage women. Officers say that when questioning Havens, he told them he viewed child pornography on his cell phone and exchanged child pornography on Twitter.
Authorities also report that they found 38 recorded images of child pornography on her phone. Officials say Havens was employed as a policeman with the Christiansburg Police Department when he committed the crimes.
In Montgomery County Circuit Court, Havens pleaded guilty to the following:
Three Chiefs of Child Pornography Distribution
Two counts of possession of child pornography
We were told he was sentenced to three years of active imprisonment with an additional 37 years suspended. Additionally, as part of the plea, Havens will need to register as a sex offender in any jurisdiction where he works or resides after his imprisonment.
