Civilian Police Academy provides hands-on experience of police work
You can register before February 1st for the 2022 academy
VICTORIA, Texas — The 2022 Civilian Police Academy will give residents the opportunity to learn more about different areas of police work. It will also put knowledge into practice through hands-on activities and demonstrations.
“We try to include as many different areas of the department as possible,” said agent John Turner. “Our past attendees have found the format entertaining and informative.”
2022 Academy activities will include:
- A simulated building search
- Dust removal for fingerprints
- Demonstration of flashbangs, Tasers and other tools
- Gun Safety and Shooting
- A simulation used to train officers to make split-second decisions
The academy will take place on Tuesday evenings from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. from February 8 to April 26. A break will take place on March 13 for the spring break holidays. The academy will also include two Saturday morning sessions in April with dates still pending.
You can apply in person at the Police Department‘s Victoria Mall office, located at 7800 N. Navarro Street. You can also complete the form at www.victoriatx.gov/civilianpoliceacademy. The deadline to apply is February 1.
Those who complete the Civilian Police Academy, the Civilian Response Program (formerly known as the Civilian Fire Academy), and the Citizen Academy will receive the Distinguished Citizen Award. They will also be recognized at a meeting of the municipal council.
